Start with a licensed Real Estate Agent!
Real Estate agents are real professionals, usually possessing a college degree in addition to their state license. They typically cover a well defined area and know that area, the homes that are there and other things about that area as well as anyone in that area!

Our real estate agent is Sara Zafarano with Ebby Holliday. She is a friend of our family, and a real gem! Sara took Michelle to dozens of homes before we decided on the Miriam. If you are looking for a trustworthy, smart and fun agent in the South Dallas county or Ellis county areas of North Texas, we definitely recommend Sara to you!

Make sure that your credit is in good shape!
While it is true that credit goes back for seven years, there are a few important things to know as you plan to by a new home:

- Your credit should be very good for the last 3 years
- You should be prepared to write letters, talk about and clean up any negative marks on your credit.
- Mortgage lenders don't like to see non-payment of utilities and homes in your history.
- There are lots of places that will give you a "free" credit report". Be careful about those that ask for personal information like credit cards and bank account numbers. We used www.annualcreditreport.com 3 years before we ever started looking to buy a home.

Find a builder and a Floor Plan that you love!
We chose Wall Homes and their Miriam Floor Plan. The house is detailed at the above link. We are getting a corner lot in the new part of an existing development. A corner house was an important detail for us since we have four Scottish Terriers. Wall Homes' service, responsiveness and courtesy have been top shelf!

You will need a mortgage company to finance you!
There are lots of options available. In our case, Endeavor Capital Mortgage is the lender that is partnered with Wall Homes. We were offered multiple incentives to go with Endeavor:

- Free Window Shades
- Half off on all upgrades
- Covered back Patio
- And other incentives

Get homeowner's insurance with a reputable company
We are going with Allstate!

Internal low voltage wiring is a major factor for us!
We chose HomeProTech as our vendor for our low voltage wiring. This includes wiring for CAT5 Networking cable, satellite cable, phone jacks and media center wiring.

There is no place like home, so design options count!
The folks at the Wall Homes Design Center in North Dallas were fabulous to work with. Suprisingly, picking our carpets, fixtures, cabinets and other design elements only took about 3 hours!

Need a camera for pictures during the build!
Mine is a part of my phone, the ultra cool Motorola Q running Windows Mobile 5. Talk about a great phone!
